Visa relief for Nanyondo, Ajok

KAMPALA. After over a two-week visa wait, Ugandan middle-distance pair Winnie Nanyondo and Dorcus Ajok will finally fly to London.
This is after the pair received their entry documents into UK yesterday afternoon. Now Nanyondo and Ajok, who run in the 800m heats on Thursday night, fly out this afternoon aboard Fly Emirates.

“I was called and told my visa processing was eventually successful,” said Ajok, the national 800m champion. Like Nanyondo, the 24-year-old received the confirmation from Uganda Athletics Federation administrative officer Timothy Masaba.
But hasn’t the long wait for a visa been a problem? “It helped me have more time to train. I have been working out in Namboole,” said Ajok.
“Unfortunately, my training partners Abu Mayanja, Ronald Musagala and Halima (Nakaayi) already travelled to London so it has been a bit difficult,” Nanyondo offered.

Second time lucky
Meanwhile, Nanyondo’s visa wait to the UK succeeded for the first time in three years since appearing and winning bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Last year, Nanyondo was denied a visa to UK, missing out on the 800m race at the London Diamond League. The women’s two-lap race heats will be on Thursday at 9:25pm, Ugandan time at the Olympic Stadium.
