Rally drivers, MX riders cautioned on safety

KAMPALA. Rally drivers and motocross (MX) riders have been advised not to put their guard down in as far as safety measures are concerned despite securing an insurance policy.
The Shs105m cover, from the Insurance Company of East Africa (ICEA), will cater for drivers, riders and officials injured during competitions over three years.
“MX and rallying are high risk sports hence the need to prop up safety standards during and after the events,” John Korionji, the CEO of ICEA, said after signing an MoU with motosport governing body, FMU, at Lugogo on Wednesday. “We are glad to come and provide an important element for the events. We are here to see that the participants and the fans enjoy the events,” Korionji added during the ceremony attended by MX champion Maxime Van Pee and rallying reigning champion Ronald Ssebuguzi.
In case of injury, property damage or death, participants and fans will all be covered.
Jack Wavamunno, the FMU president, said: “The sponsorship from ICEA will enable us to be a responsible sports federation by offering cover to sportsmen while entertaining the public safely.”
