KAMPALA. Hima Heathens skipper Romano Ogwal has attributed his team’s dramatic turnaround - from a mini crisis that forced a change in management last year into Nile Special Premiership winners - to the useful contributions of the youngsters blooded in.
Far from their best and showing signs of cracking the last season, Heathens have notched up 14 successive wins in a row, winning the league title with two games to spare and Ogwal believes the young players have been the sparkle of the team.
“They have been the sparkle of the team,” he told Daily Monitor. “They have matured because of the exposure and they have won us important games too,” he added.
Allan Wanyoto, Allan Omoding, Joseph Oyet, Aaron Ofoirwoth, Aziz Khan, Santos Senteza, Eric Nyeko Simon Okwera, Reynold Kato have all enjoyed a breakthrough season under the guidance of coach Mohammed Athiyo and other senior figures at Heathens. “The young players have adopted and maintained what they see from the senior players, we have informal mentorships for the lads to enable them meet the standards demanded at Heathens,” Ogwal told this paper.

With the departure of Phillip Wokorach to Kabras, there was a worry of his absence affecting Heathens aspirations but the likes of Oyet and Ofoirwoth have left everyone asking who needs Wokorach.
