KAMPALA. Cipla Quality Chemicals showed class to win the Standard Chartered Bank “Road to Anfield” 5-aside football competition at the Mandela National Stadium on Saturday.

Cipla, who also won in 2016, scored twice in the opening five minutes of the 20-minute game to beat hard battling Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), who were playing the final on their debut season. CAA had eliminated last year’s winners Coca-Cola in a heated semi final game.

The pharmaceutical side coached by Maroons tactician Asaph Mwebaze, scooped all top prizes with their striker Moses Kifumbi announced the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The final team which will compose of seven players earned a fully paid trip to Anfield, the home of English Premier League side Liverpool in August.
Peter West, the British High Commissioner to Uganda, decorated the various winners in the balmy afternoon sun before singer Bebe Cool entertained the guests.

The competition hinges on the Bank’s Liverpool sponsorship and an opportunity for Standard Chartered Bank to reinforce its partnership with Liverpool and its clients.
Nation Media Group fielded three teams including NTV, Monitor A and B. All teams didn’t go beyond the groups.
