Defender Sseninde joins Crested Cranes camp

Kampala.

Jean Sseninde joined the Crested Cranes camp in their last non-residential training in Lugogo ahead of the May 12-20 Cecafa Women Championships in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Crystal Palace defender and midfielder is probably the last addition to the 30-man camp that starts their residential training in Lubowa today.
“I am glad to join the rest of the squad and I hope by the end we shall be able to work together to bring the trophy home,” Sseninde said.
Winning in Rwanda will be a giant leap from the fourth-placed finish at the last edition held in Njeru in 2016.
Crested Cranes will hope to build from their resilient display against Kenya in an unsuccessful Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualification campaign last month.
However, coach Faridah Bulega, will have to do without some of the players that were part of that promising squad.
Kawempe’s Juliet Nalukenge and Grace Aluka did not make it to the camp while Kampala Queens’ Aisha Namukisa, Mable Kusasiira, Zainah Namuleme and Isra Academy’s Shakira Naluggya were released on Saturday to join their schools for the Post Primary Ball Games in Fort Portal.
“I was disappointed that the Kawempe girls did not turn up and claimed to be in exams when all government schools should have finished,” Bulega told Daily Monitor.
She might have to turn to Tracy Jones Akiror or Gladys Nakiito to replace left back Aluka while Winnie Babirye, Favour Nambatya and Fazilah Ikwaput are all capable replacements for Namuleme and Nalukenge.
“Having been a student at some point too, I understand that students must represent their schools.”
