Goal jamboree for KCCA

Ayiekoh is wary of Mucureezi-led Ankole ahead of today’s tie.

Kampala.

KCCA manager Mike Mutebi appears to have perfected the art of guiding players through the youth ranks and into the first team over the years.
In a long line that now includes current KCCA players Allan Okello, Julius Poloto, Mustafa Kizzaa and Lawrence Bukenya, this season has witnessed another youngster Steven Sserwadda breakthrough at Lugogo.
His full repertoire was on show yesterday with a brace in a 20 minute cameo as KCCA stormed the Stanbic Uganda Cup final with an emphatic 9-0 rout and 10-0 aggregate win over relegated Big League side Synergy.
On a night of many positives for his side, there was a hattrick for Patrick Kaddu as well as another double for Okello and classy goals from Jackson Nunda and former Synergy forward Solomon Okwalinga. Yet inevitably the player on most fans’ lips was Old Kampala SS student Sserwada .
Having scored the team’s sixth goal shortly after his second half introduction, the diminutive playmaker went on a solo run that saw him nutmeg the goalkeeper after spurning past two defenders for the eighth goal.
“We have good young players that you will talk about. The fans also enjoyed and it is good to talk about the other good things beyond the result like Sserwada, Okello and the Synergy number 10,” Mutebi said.
Striker Kaddu’s hattrick made him the joint leading scorer with six goals in the competition and his fifth minute opener deflated the opponents.
“It was a good result and good game. We were efficient and our centre forwards like Kaddu also scored,” Mutebi noted.
Synergy were meanwhile left to pick positives from the overall campaign having gone from playing the promotional playoffs 12-months ago to demotion into the third tier.
“I thank the boys for taking us this far. The overall performance was good but we did not do the simple things first,” Synergy coach Brian Ssenyondo said.
The other finalist will be known on Tuesday when Villa visit Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium in what promises to be a highly charged encounter given the drama of the first leg draw.
