Mubiru in title path of Vipers

Kampala.

The last time Police and Vipers faced off in the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) was back in October on match day five of the current campaign.
Then, the Cops run out 2-1 winners at Namboole in a result that sent them top of the log just above their opponents to pile more pressure on then under-fire Vipers Portuguese head coach Miguel Da Costa.
But as the two teams to prepare to face off again this evening at the St. Mary’s Stadium the tables have since turned. Vipers come into the game seeking to extend their two point lead at the top by at least 24 hours over second placed SC Villa who play tomorrow with both teams left with four games to end the season.
“When you’re winning games, it gives the players confidence. In the first round, we weren’t playing as well as we know we can, but it shows the strength in depth in the squad to grind out results and it’s something we have to keep doing till the last game,” said Vipers assistant coach Edward Golola who will be on the touchline for the third game in absence of suspended Da Costa.
Police on the other hand are currently languishing in eighth position having just ended a three match losing streak that almost claimed the job of coach Abdallah Mubiru also formerly at Vipers.
“Amidst all the problems at the club, Police is a good side but we have to put out a statement going into the final bend,” Golola added.
Mubiru is meanwhile confident recent developments that included one club official announce his sacking have instead galvanized his team as they seek to end the season the way it started.
Elsewhere, the prospect of a UPDF funded team suffering relegation for the second time in three seasons became a distinct possibility yesterday after the struggling army side were docked three points.
