KAMPALA- Makerere University’s march towards the quarterfinals of the Nile Special University Football League reaches a pivotal moment today when they visit Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) in a match billed as a do-or-die.

Makerere are yet to register a win since the league kicked off three weeks ago, having shared spoils with Kampala University (0-0) before losing to arch rivals Makerere University Business School (Mubs) 1-0. Their game against Uganda Christian University (UCU) last week was abandoned in the 70th minute. They await a ruling from the League Disciplinary Committee.

Nkozi meanwhile secured their first ever UFL victory after 26 games, beating Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Must) 3-1 in Mbarara.
Nkozi manager Joseph Ssekandi was keen to downplay the importance of the match but acknowledged it was a “significant” clash and that taking three points is vital in retaining the feel-good factor sweeping through the team.

“It took us 26 games but we eventually secured our very first win in the league and what a sweet win it was that made the campus celebrate all night,” said Ssekandi.
“Makerere have beaten us in the last four times we have met. But we are going to take confidence from our performance against Mbarara where everyone on the team pulled together to get a win.”

For Makerere, this match is a must win if they are to avoid failure to qualify for the league quarter finals.
