Table tennis can only get better in Uganda, according to Egyptian Ahmed Dawalatly.
The International Table Tennis (ITTF) technical expert concluded a Level 1 coaching course on Friday at which 14 of the 18 participants passed their examinations.

“Normally in other African countries, the performance in final exams is not as good as I have witnessed here,” Dawalatly said after the five-day course at Kololo Secondary School. Only Jonathan Rwego, Moses Ibanda, Nsubuga Kizito and Joseph Rukondo didn’t make the grade and were handed club certificates. They will have to enroll for the course again after one year.

Dawalatly also warned those who passed that they won’t be handed their certificates unless they do the mandatory 30-hour coaching practice. “The good thing is that they have four years to complete the 30 hours of coaching practice. However, the faster one does the practice, the better,” said the Egyptian.

Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) president, Robert Jjagwe, called on the successful coaches, most of them still active players, to pass on the knowledge to the young ones.
Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) secured funds for the course from its international mother body, IOC.
