18-year-old wins Busoga Miss Tourism

Eighteen-year-old Roberta Jean-Marie Magoba was crowned Miss Tourism Busoga. This was after she beat 14 other girls in the Miss Tourism Busoga region pageant at Jinja Nile Resort Hotel last Saturday. Magoba became the judges favourite after passing all stages, one of which included the talent test. Here, she showcased her painting abilities when she came up with a painting in just three minutes. She explained it to the judges and the audince was wowed. The other contestants also showcased talents like reciting poems, singing and dancing.
The first runner-up was 22-year-old Christine Nalwadda Zaake, while 21-year-old Brenda Ankunda was second runner-up.
The three winners will visit all the Scandinavia countries - Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland.
The other contestants will be made ambassadors of the 12 tourist sites in Busoga, including River Nile, Itanda Falls and Kagulu Hill, among others.
The pageant, the first of its kind in Busoga, will be organised annually.
Crown Africa, a traditional dance group, entertained the guests during the event.
Last year, the minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Maria Mutagamba brought to life Miss Tourism beauty pageant.
Unlike last year where contestants were picked from only central region, this year’s Miss Tourism will be chosen from the different parts of the country, thus regional pageants.
Female Ugandan women aged between 18 and 29, with a minimum height of five feet and seven inches tall, are eligible.
The top three beauty queens from each region will compete for the crown at the grand finale to be held at the Serena Hotel on October 17.
