For a musician who was paid Shs108m, Ugandans expected the best from him but Diamond Platinumz left many disappointed last Friday evening at Kololo Independence Grounds where he was the headliner at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) charity concert.
The Tanzanian musician performed for close to two hours but the only mark he made was for twenty minutes where he sung his famous songs that Ugandans know of. However, he also did them halfway.
The rest of the minutes, he did unfamiliar songs as the crowd just looked on and besides that, he kept talking about those songs in Swahili, well knowing that Ugandans are not well accustomed to the language.
Unlike last year when he performed in Uganda alongside Patoraking, Diamond really improved with his vocal ability and he kept proving that, telling the band to stop playing as he hit high notes. This at first was interesting but it later became nagging as some people were heard telling him to stop and sing as others were heard saying ‘our money’.
His performance was cut short at 11.58pm because of KCCA’s regulations of outdoor events not exceeding midnight but the musician was seen throwing tantrums when he was ordered to stop performing midway his ‘Nanana’ song.
Besides that, Gravity Omutujju had also caused some chaos when he verbally attacked the KCCA officials for paying Diamond lots of money while Ugandans were given little. He did this while on stage and right in front of Executive Director Jennifer Musisi. He even proved his point by telling everyone in the audience to swing their handkerchiefs as he was singing his ‘Winner’ song and they gladly obliged. The scenes were simply remarkable.
