Five years in studio were worth the wait. Singer Naava Grey’s maiden 20-track album is proof of her creativity and hard work. She made good of her moment on stage thanks to her good vocal abilities and connection with the crowd as Janzi Band backed her up. This was at Gatto Matto in Bugolobi, where she released her maiden album titled Naava Grey- The Album on Thursday night.
And it was not just her stage presence that stood out, she was smartly dressed in a beautiful dress that matched well with her shoes, head and arm bands.
For 90 minutes, the crowd kept cheering the former Tusker Project Fame (TPF) contestant. It is interesting to note that Naava, who was evicted 11th in TPF 2009, has continuously chased her music star, which the winners have not successfully done.
Her music is inspired by love, both her life experiences and from people around her. As she serenaded the audience, it was easy to appreciate that she communicated different moods portrayed through her lyrics, delivery and tempo. There were moments when she got carried away. One of such was an acoustic music moment with Charmant Mushaga, a passionate guitarist. Their connection gave way to stage chemistry that tickled fans to ululate.
Some of her outstanding songs included Ebiro which was produced by Andy Music of Buddies Music, In the Dark by Alshizzo Aliba Waani by Michael Fingers and a few other tracks by producer D King, Josh Wonder, Chali Bravo Mulalami and Ogopa Butterfly.
One of Naava’s outstanding gifts as an artiste is her wordplay, song arrangement and ability to fuse African with western sound. It is evident she spends time with her producers to bring out the best music. She has worked with local artistes, as well as those from Nigeria and Zambia.
