Kampala.

After making her mark on the East African and international comedy stage, comedian Anne Kansiime has been rewarded with a silver play button after clocking more than 100,000 channel subscribers on YouTube.

YouTube’s vice president global head of content operations Tom Pickett, described the 100,000 subscribers as more than double the size of a packed Roman Colosseum. In a letter of appreciation to Ms Kansiime, he said: “We want you to know that we do not take your achievement for granted. You delivered the audience. Now we are delivering the rewards.”

All owed to the fans
To thank her fans for their support, an elated Kansiime took to Facebook with a post that read: “Yet another milestone. I have been awarded the YouTube silver play button, a feat I wouldn’t have achieved without your love my ninjas. Thank you so much for subscribing to my YouTube page.

More entertainment still coming. I promise I will not cheat on you. Keep the love coming.”
Having spent a remarkable part of 2014 performing in international gigs, 2015 is set to become a fast paced year for the comedian, if the award is anything to go by.

In 2007, Ms Kansiime began acting in the comedy group Theatre Factory, which played at the National Theater until its disintegration. She later joined Theatre Fun, whose skits were broadcast on NTV in the Barbed Wire TV show, which later became U-Turn.

With Mr Brian Mulondo, Ms Kansiime stared in the MiniBuzz series as a Taxi interview conductor. Her breakthrough came when Citizen TV of Kenya offered her a slot to produce, star and present a weekly comedy show, Don’t Mess With Kansiime.
She has appeared on BBC Focus on Africa, and also played to packed houses in Blantyre, Gaborone, Kigali, Lagos, Lilongwe, Lusaka, and London.

The reward
When you pass 100,000 subscribers, YouTube reaches out to honour you with a framed Silver Play Button. This is because by placing your video’s on YouTube, you create content for them to keep them in the business.

Every time you press the button, you continue supporting the channel. Kansiime’s getting the award can only spell good things to come in the future and with more people subscribing to watch her video’s, it will not only bring her fame, but may qualify her for a Gold Play Button.
