It was an exciting evening, one of smiles and pleasant speeches, as top East African brands received accolades for a job well done. Airtel, Roofings, Pepsi, Nina Interiors, Alliance Media, KCB Bank, among others, were rewarded with accolades by Superbrands East Africa, an affiliate of London-based Superbrands UK.

The warm evening kicked off at 6pm with a cocktail at Kampala Serena Hotel’s upper foyer where guests mingled, to network and share jokes and experiences over bites, drinks and relaxing music.
The waiters and waitresses were up to their job of refilling glasses with wine and soft drinks. Later on, at about 8pm, ushers, beautifully clad in red, guided guests to Victoria Hall, which was glamorously decorated.

As guests made their way to their tables the Fenon Events crew played cool music. Minutes later, the chief guest the Vice President, Edward Ssekandi Kiwanuka walked in the Minister of Finance, Maria Kiwanuka and the event kicked off. In his speech, the VP commended the awards for re-awakening the business brands in East Africa.

“We are deeply proud today to recognise East Africa’s best brands and particularly our own grown brands such as Roofings and many others. We congratulate you on this achievement because making it to this list is no mean achievement. However, in Uganda we have a long way to go in ensuring better packaging, branding, accurate and description,” he pointed out.

Susan Kerunen and her band entertained guests with rich world music that tells of African stories and experiences. House of Talent Cultural troupe was on stage to showcase traditional entertainment.
Jawad Jaffer, Superbrands project director encouraged people to start small and keep focused, adding that for these brands to make it to the list, loyalty, trust in the firm and brand awareness were considered. Superbrands East Africa is held every two years.
