The Purge is a rarity in that it is one of those few movies where the sequel is actually better than the original.
For those not familiar with the first installment, then I can summarise the movie as senseless violence and gore at its epitome. If you happen not to wear your emotions on your sleeve and carry at least one sadistic bone in you, then you will definitely get a kick out of this movie.

The film is set in the near future, 2023, where the government grants its citizens 12 hours to commit whatever crime (murder for most of the characters) they deem fit without the possibility of punishment. This is justified as a way of curbing poverty and crime. The first installment was about a home invasion, while this time round, the story is centred on three groups of people. A young family caught outside during the start of a purge, a single mother and daughter, who are forced out of their home, as well as a lone stranger hell bent on completing a deadly personal mission. Their goal is survival!
The Purge raises serious social concerns about how the rich continue to trample over the poor. The movie may not be a critic favourite but in my view, was worth every minute spent watching it.
