The handy Suzuki Jimny is back
According to Suzuki.co.ug, the Jimny was originally launched in 1970 and the original Suzuki Jimny was launched as a lightweight, a go-anywhere 4×4. The fact that the third-generation Jimny has been on sale since 1998, it was well overdue an update. However, the new fourth-generation model keeps the same rugged, boxy looks and proper off-road ability, but with a more modern interior and features inside.
Interior
The all-new Jimny, has little to distract from driving. Its stylish black interior is humble yet handsome, and controls are designed for quick and easy operation. Every detail is thoughtfully and attractively crafted to support serious off-roading.
Features and safety
Abbas Lubwama owned the third generation Suzuki and says he had a chance to look at the new Jimny. He says the on lane departure warning, hill hold control, 15” steel wheels, dual sensor brake support, DAB digital radio, daytime running lights – standard, hill descent control, bluetooth integrated into audio unit, full size spare wheel tyre are new additions on the car. He also acknowledges that safety was priority in this new Jimny because it has front airbags but not for the rear, side head airbags, side chest and pelvis airbags, seat belt reminders, belt pre-tensioners and load limiters.
Engine and fuel consumption
The new Jimny is equipped with a 1.5 litre engine. It takes you wherever you want to go with unrivalled agility and powerful torque when you need it most.
The Jimny adapts to every situation, featuring a part time 4WD system with low range transfer gear. More strength when you Shift the lever to the 4L mode (4WD- low gear) when the going gets tough for maximum torque and better traction on steep slopes and rough terrain.
Tough terrain
According to Lubwama, The capability of Jimny still shines through because it still has the rugged 4x4 principles that inspired the first model in 1970. The new Jimny is ready to handle all conditions, so it is ideal for adventure.
The rear luggage space can be expanded by folding the rear seats, creating a relatively big luggage space. Flat all the way across, the quarter trims, and seats have been carefully designed to maximise storage width.
Downside
It is not particularly comfortable. The driver’s seat only moves back and forward and since it is only a two-door car, you have to climb into the rear seats. Also, headroom in the rear is okay but knee room is a bit tight.
Boot space is also tight. With the rear seats not folded. Fold these seats down and storage space increases but that is still less space than you would get in the boot of other small hatchbacks.
