Sometimes you need to change a gym due to unavoidable circumstances. It could be about the gym you go to, the people you work out with and the environment, among other reasons. Here are some of the indicators that you need to join a new gym.

The instructor is bad
We all want the best instructor to get our desired results. Ivan Kiwanuka of GYZ gym in Kampala notes that working out under a poor instructor is tiresome and fruitless, and this could be an indicator that you need to move on.
“In case you learn that the instructor has no expertise in the field then look for another gym because your efforts will be futile. Some instructors are learners while others just do not know what to do. If you insist on staying, you will see no results at all,” he adds.

There is no equipment

Equipment is one of the reasons most people go to the gym because you can do anything else from home. Equipment aids workout and not having them could be troublesome.
“For example, those doing muscle building need heavy machines to have it done. In case the gym you go to does not have such materials, then you need to think of moving to a fully equipped gym,” Kiwanuka says, adding that some gyms do not replace spoilt equipment, which could lead to injuries.

When the fees are high
Christine Atuhaire says she was shocked one time when she went for aerobics classes at a certain gym in Kampala and she was asked to pay Shs35,000 for just one session. Since she had only planned to pay Shs15,000, she looked for a gym that was within what she could afford.
Kelvin Onekalit, a fitness instructor, says sometimes the amount you pay is high compared to other gyms that could be giving similar services or even more. He advises to look for one that will not require you to break the bank.

Incase the gym is far
Similarly, if the gym is far and you have to put in a lot of time, fuel or transport to reach, then you could think of changing to a nearby gym.
“Some gyms are too far from one’s workplace or home, which could make it hard for you to beat the jam and make it on time. It is important to use a gym that will enable you to sometimes walk in case there is traffic jam,” he adds.

If the place is unpleasant
It is disgusting working out in a dirty, noisy, uncomfortable place. Onekalit notes that if your gym is, for example in a place that is noisy and does not give you a peace of mind or allow you to concentrate, then you can opt for another gym.

If your team is not helpful
Moses Kiwede, a gym instructor at G&L gym in Namuwongo, a Kampala suburb, says the people you workout with matter a lot towards your fitness goals because they give you the morale to work out more.
If the people in your company are lazy then you will have to move to another gym to have a vibrant team. Lazy teammates will make you miss schedules and therefore fall short on your goals.
“Similarly, we all go to the gym to achieve our fitness goals but sometimes do not get the desired results due to a number of reasons. This could be because of the instructor and doing the wrong workouts among other reasons. Try another gym if you realise that your goals are not being achieved,” Kiwede advises.

Your safety and that of your property is very important. If the gym you go to puts your life at risk however good it is, you should consider looking for a more secure gym.
“Some gyms are in dark corners, areas with no security, reached after a number of dark corridors and even the instructors cannot be trusted,” Moses Kiwede, a gym instructor in Namuwongo says.

Ivan Kiwanuka, a gym instructor, notes that to avoid regrets, you should make sure the gym you are enrolling in is genuine and the instructors have clear records. For example, know who they are and how long they have been in the field among other fundamental things.
