How do I create change?

What you need to know:

  • You have to engage the owners of the business to fully understand what they intended to achieve when they set up their business and that will constitute the strategy you and your colleagues on the executive team will implement

I have been tasked with improvement of staff performance through the use of KPIs. I need a strategic plan/objective from senior management to generate efforts from all staff towards one area of focus. Unfortunately, my company does not have any strategic objective. I have asked management to create a plan in vain. Are there other tools one can use to achieve a level of cultural change and improved performance? Moses

Dear Moses,
What your employers require of you is to craft a business implementation strategy and then design and implement a performance management system that links what the individual employees do on daily, monthly and annual basis to the identified company’s strategy.

You have to engage the owners of the business to fully understand what they intended to achieve when they set up their business and that will constitute the strategy you and your colleagues on the executive team will implement.

You should bear in mind that strategy consists of three dimensions ie, the first is value proposition, which is the reason your customers buy from you and not your competition. Value proposition is the promise you make to your customers.

The second is value chain, which includes all of the various functional and individual activities and tasks employees perform every day as they execute their jobs. The third is the fit, which is the effective alignment of value proposition and value chain throughout the business. That sums up the execution challenge you have been charged with resolving in your company.

As you rightly stated, you are struggling on this deliverable and clearly you need advice from seasoned resources to hand-hold you to implement what your employers have engaged you to do.
Convince your bosses to seek expert advice and guidance so that you come out of the process with an implementable strategic plan.
