What kind of person are HRs unlikely to hire?

Alice Nankya

I have been applying for jobs for almost a year but not sure why I never get hired. Kindly advise on the qualities that put off employers. Rose

Dear Rose,
Strong technical skills and relevant industry experience are two extremely valuable “must-haves” as a job candidate. However, these alone are not always enough as often times they can be taught far more easily than interpersonal skills. Thus a candidate’s personality traits can matter just as much their technical skills in whether they get hired.
Employers look for integrity as a core value, among others in every candidate during the interview process. Try to be as truthful as possible about unfavourable and undeniable instances that might have happened to you in your previous jobs for example being laid off by your previous employer. You should also desist from lying about the details in your resume.
When hiring, employers may be much better off finding a trainable person than a talented one. Trainable persons display interest and curiosity about the job, good listening skills and very knowledgeable about the employers’ business. You should be able to demonstrate passion for work, adaptability and good problem solving skills.
The ability to participate in a teamwork environment is an essential workplace skill. Even in technical jobs, communicating and interacting with coworkers is critical to the work getting accomplished. So as a candidate you will need to exhibit some teamwork abilities during the interview process. The job you apply for should be relevant to your technical skills and work experience. If you are just starting out your career, avoid applying for positions above your work experience.
