KAMPALA. It will be a battle of champions as the two- day Oryx Mosac Rally 2018 start today in Mbale. Ronald Ssebuguzi (Evo X), Jas Mangat (Evo X) and Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge (Subaru N12B) have won a combined seven national title in the past 12 years. But one of them will walk away with the 2018 title tomorrow.
Unlike Ssebuguzi and Mangat who have won events this this season, the Super Lady has ‘drove’ herself into title contention by her consistency, scoring in each and every round, a mark of as champion.
In the six round she has competed so far this season, she has finished not lower than fifth save for Jinja where she was outside the top 10 but still managed to collect 10 points.
The 2011 champion told SCORE, she will not be carried away despite being in contention with the big boys. “I will not change my strategy because of the title, my main focus is to bring back the car and target a podium finish.”
Like Mangat, the Super Lady will making her maiden appearance in Mbale and hopes it will be a success.
On the pressure being in contention with three time champions Mangat and Ssebuguzi, she replied: “the pressure is on the other two. They have more to prove than me.”
Her trusted navigator Edmond Kyeyune also weighed in on their chances and said they are more than ready. He said: “the flat terrain will favour our strong Subaru N12B.”
The event has a total of 264.78km of which 176.62km is competitive spread over nine sections. Today drivers will cover five competitive section (CS) totalling 68.16km while tomorrow they have four CS with a total distance 107.58km.
