In a pre-match press conference on Thursday, Mujib Kasule spoke of a dream being realized. One that will see the club play their maiden game in continental club football with players groomed from the club academy and through the right channels.
As one of the directors at the club in that 13-year journey, it will sure be an emotional moment as Proline take on Masters Security of Malawi in the Caf Champions League first leg this evening.
And while coach Shafik Bisaso will understand the gravity of the occasion having returned for his second stint after serving at the club between 2011-2014 he will have little time for sentiments.
At stake is an opportunity to get a good first leg result as they seek to make it past the preliminary round at the first time of asking.
They will start as slight underdogs in the tie having never played continental football against a team that featured in the same competition last season albeit suffering a 5-0 aggregate loss to Angola’s Petro de Luanda.
The positive though is that they spent most of last season playing as underdogs on their way to winning the Uganda Cup. This included a famous 2-1 win over Vipers that coach Bisaso believes can be used as a template for today’s encounter.
“We played our natural game and once we do that I’m sure we shall get a good result,” he said midweek.
Few players exemplify that in his team more than the two attackers, captain Noordin Bunjo and Bright Anukani. The pair possess the finesse and technical ability to unlock defences.
It however remains to be seen whether they will both start with Hakim Kiwanuka, Ivan Bogere, Joshua Okiror and Ibrahim Bonyo the other attacking options.
They were also able to bolster their defensive options with Yusuf Mukisa, Bernard Muwanga joining Mustafa Mujuzi and Ibrahim Sendi in what should be their strongest link.
