What you need to know:

Only once in 10 away outings in the Caf engagements has KCCA escaped with a clean sheet - in the 0-0 draw with St George in Addis Ababa on July 2018.

Common sense dictates that Uganda Premier League and Cecafa champions KCCA return to the Caf Champions League today with their work cut out having learned a thing or two about the previous damning away experiences.
Yet KCCA manager Mike Mutebi’s insistence on playing the-attack-first-defend-later ‘our way’ system on foreign soil points to the saying of ‘having learned nothing and forgotten nothing.’
Only once in 10 away outings in the Caf engagements has KCCA escaped with a clean sheet - in the 0-0 draw with St George in Addis Ababa on July 2018.
Put succinctly, in their first Caf Confederations Cup adventure under Mutebi, the three away matches yielded three defeats. KCCA let in a massive nine goals in three away group matches that season while scoring just once in the 2-1 defeat to Nigeria’s Rivers United.
In the follow-up Champions League campaign they conceded eight goals away from home. True to his innate attacking character, Mutebi had doubters rethinking by scoring twice against Esperance in Tunis and thrice against Al Ahly in Egypt plus sinking in adoration after finally registering his first away win in the 2-1 victory over Tanzanian side Mtibwa Sugar in Dar Es Salaam.
Like in the the 3-2 and 4-3 defeats Esperance and Al Ahly, you can be pretty sure Mutebi is going for entertainment against Namibian side African Stars today but like the 3-0 humbling by Congo Brazaville little known entity Otoho showed, they may fall on hard times in Windhoek. Interestingly, the home script has been more than impressive and Mutebi, now viewed as a doyen of Ugandan coaches, is expected to exercise caution.
“The Wakiso Giants away game asked us the very questions we wanted to face African Stars away from home. Now the boys’ mindsets are ready for any challenge,” Mutebi said on Tuesday.
On paper, KCCA looks depleted without the three new experienced arrivals John Revita, Simon Sserunkuma and Erisa Sekisambu plus the departed Timothy Awany, but Mutebi’s trust in youngsters Allan Okello, Sadat Anaku, Peter Magambo and Samuel Kato will most likely pay off.
