What you need to know:

Vipers have been close to faultless in their first two league games with victories over Tooro United and Bright Stars and now have a chance to gain an arm’s distance on rivals KCCA

Three-time Uganda Premier League (UPL) kings Vipers could turn up the heat on other league contenders early on with a victory over Mbarara City this afternoon.
Having had their league games against Onduparaka and Bul postponed due to the international break, Vipers, welcoming back coach Edward Golola from the sick bay, are expected to show up with vitality against a Mbarara side that held them to home and away draws last campaign as they finished bridesmaids to eventual champions KCCA.
Vipers have been close to faultless in their first two league games with victories over Tooro United and Bright Stars and now have a chance to gain an arm’s distance on rivals KCCA who aren’t in league action this weekend yet Onduparaka will also have a point to prove when they visit on form Busoga United at Njeru this afternoon.
Golola still has to assess the fitness levels of Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye, Karim Watambala Muhammad Shaban, Livingstone Mulondo and Geoffrey Wasswa but will bank on the impressive formbook of Dan Sserunkuma, Paul Willa, Halid Lwaliwa, Fahd Bayo and Allan Kayiwa to get the deserved triumph.
Wakiso counting on home fortunes
The near misses in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Bright Stars at Wankulukuku must have given Wakiso Giants coach Kefa Kisala a thought of tactical change if he is to get back to winning ways today against Bul that was whipped 3-0 by Busoga United in the ‘Jinja derby’.
If strikers Viane Ssekajugo and Geoffrey Sserunkuma can convert half the chances wasted against Bright Stars and the midfield set of Hakim Senkumba, Tom Masiko, Hassan Ssenyonjo and Lawrence Bukenya maintains the rhythm at home, ‘big spenders’ Wakiso Giants will most likely cement their summit status in the league they joined this season.
