A Shs735 million three-unit classroom block is set to improve the learning environment of 720 needy students at PEAS Sampling Nama High School in Mpigi District.

The rehabilitation of the classrooms, which began in August 2018, was funded by MTN Uganda Foundation in collaboration with PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools). PEAS is a UK-based non-governmental organisation with operations in Uganda and Zambia.

The classroom block is meant to absorb the rising number of primary school leavers seeking to join secondary school.
MTN Uganda general manager for corporate services, Ms Enid Edroma, handed over the block to PEAS and expressed MTN’s commitment to supporting education in Uganda.

“As MTN Uganda Foundation, we are aware that a good learning environment improves learning, which in turn improves learning outcomes. We are happy to provide that for the students in PEAS Sampling Nama High School,” she said.

The PEAS Uganda country director, Mr Henry Senkasi, commended MTN for providing the needy students with state-of-the art infrastructure.
“With this new classroom block, the school will be able to enrol more learners and decongest their old classrooms. This will boost their learning and performance,” Mr Senkasi said.

Mawokota County North Member of Parliament Amelia Kyambadde and Education ministry commissioner for Private Schools George Mutekanga attended the ceremony.

Ms Kyambadde expressed disappointed in the Mpigi District Education Officer for not showing up at the function.

“I want to thank you [MTN] for selecting Nama because it is going to become a world of opportunities. I now have a task of ensuring electricity connectivity in this village. The classroom block is going to be a stimuli for growth and development,” she said.
Mr Mutekanga urged local leaders and parents to value the education support and not take it for granted.

“We have had a challenge of access to affordable education in the area, but I am glad that MTN and PEAS identified Nama. We need to ensure our children get the necessary skills that make them of great service to this country,” said Mr Mutekanga
