Police in Lwengo District are investigating circumstances under which unknown assailants attacked and killed Lwengo District accountant.

Eric Ngabo, 29, was killed on Wednesday evening by unknown assailants who later dumped his body by the roadside on Masaka-Mbarara highway.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that Ngabo was kidnapped by unknown people who strangled him to death on his way from Mbirizi trading centre to the district headquarters.

Mr Peregirino Ssenozi, a councillor representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at Lwengo District, said they were shocked to receive information that Ngabo had been killed because they had earlier in the day attended a function at the district headquarters with him.

“Ngabo received a telephone call as we were attending a function and left the venue, later to hear news of his death. It’s so sad,” he said.

Mr Abdul Kabugo Mugendawala, a councillor representing Ndagwe Sub County, said he saw the deceased jumping on a Boda Boda to Mbirizi Town from where he was kidnapped and later killed.
“The crime rate is at its peak and we really don’t know what is going on here,” he said, adding that: “Previously, unknown people have been kidnapping children, but its worrying that they have now started kidnapping and killing mature people.”

Mr Lameck Kigozi, the southern regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying police are investigating reports that Ngabo first communicated on phone with the suspected killers before leaving the district headquarters.

“As police, we have not yet arrested anyone in connection with this murder, but we are carrying out investigations. We have taken the deceased’s body to Masaka Regional Referral hospital for post mortem,” he said.

The deceased has been working as an accountant at the district for four years.
