Businesswoman convicted for vending dangerous body creams

  • Prosecution contended that on February 28, 2019 at Kinyina’s shop Mid-City Arcade in Kampala, the convict had in her possession assorted cosmetic products containing hydroquinone, a prohibited substance.

Court has sentenced a businesswoman to a fine of Shs20m or five years in jail for selling defective cosmetics.

Prossy Kinyina, 55, on Monday appeared before Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu at the Specialized Utilities, Wildlife and Standards Court and pleaded guilty.

She admitted being in possession of non-conforming products contrary to the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) Act.
Before the conviction, Kinyina said some of the cosmetics in question were stocked by her late co-worker. Ms Kamasanyu ordered the state to destroy the cosmetic products in question without fail.
