Kabale. Former Kabale Municipality speaker Richard Muhanguzi has been elected Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party general secretary for the district.
Mr Muhanguzi was elected unopposed on Wednesday replacing Mr Bonny Tumuranze who recently resigned the position for unknown reasons.
The party national deputy secretary general in-charge of policy and research, Dr Joseph Tindyebwa, presided over the elections.
Mr Magerani Byamugisha was elected the chairperson for Ndorwa East constituency replacing Mr Labour day Ronaldo who also resigned.
Ms Olivia Katushabe is now the district chairperson for the youth league replacing Stanisilus Kakimbiri who is on remand over criminal offences.
Mr Muhanguzi in his maiden speech asked the FDC members to keep united especially at this time when others are joining the breakaway faction led by former party president Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu.
“As FDC members we must keep united as we mobilise other people to join our party. Reconcile with each other in case of any misunderstanding so as to keep our party strong. When united we shall win every election in our area,” Mr Muhanguzi said.
The party district delegates’ conference was attended by about 60 delegates who rejected the hand over by Mr Tumuranze saying some office equipment such as computers were missing.
Mr Tumuranze, however, said he only received a stamp when he assumed office.
“When I became the district party general secretary one year ago, I only received a stamp and that is the only tool I have. I have been operating at my home because there was no FDC party office for Kabale,”he said.
The FDC district chairperson, Ms Lydia Turyahumura and her deputy Pius Ruhemurana asked the new leaders to work with the executive committee members to mobilise more members to join the party.
