AMURU. UPDF Fourth Division in Gulu District in northern Uganda are holding five South Sudan nationals for allegedly smuggling a firearm into Uganda.

At the time of their arrest, the suspects were found with SMG rifle No.56_17177726, with 29 rounds of ammunitions.
They were arrested on Friday near Atiak sugar plantation, Atiak Sub County in Amuru District.

The suspects are being detained pending investigations, Fourth Division PRO Maj Telesphor Turyamumanya told Daily Monitor on Friday.
UPDF was on its routine patrol within the area when they came across the suspects, MajTuryamumanya said.

“Once investigations are done, they will be taken to the Court Martial here at the division headquarters,’’ he said.
It’s alleged that the suspects had earlier on stopped the workers from ploughing at the Sugar Plantation alleging that they had encroached on South Susan land.
In December last year a South Sudan national was arrested in Lamwo District with a rifle while hunting.
