Reverend Benjamin Ojwang, the former Bishop of Kitgum Diocese is dead.
The prelate breathed his last at Kiruddu General Hospital in Kampala around 11am today, according to his wife, Margaret Ojwang.

According to the widow, Bishop Ojwang had been hospitalized for over a week with high blood pressure and diabetes. He was transferred to Kiruddu General Hospital from Gulu Regional Referral Hospital when his health condition worsened.

The prelate’s body is still at Kiruddu General Hospital morgue awaiting the funeral arrangements. Bishop Ojwang has been in and out of hospital since September last year when he suffered a stroke that affected his movement and speech.

About Bishop Ojwang

Ojwang was installed as the second Bishop of Kitgum Diocese in 2002 replacing McLeod Baker Ochola. His tenure in office was marred with tension and accusations against his leadership from parishioners and clergies that saw his forceful retirement in 2014.

He later sued Church of Uganda and Archbishop Stanley Ntagali over unfair removal from office before clocking his mandatory retirement age of 65 in 2017, a move that left Kitgum Diocese without a Bishop for two years.

He handed over office after an out of court negotiation in 2017 culminating into the enthronement of Rev Wilson Kitara as the new Bishop last year.
