Gen Muntu unveils ANT party leaders on Tuesday

Kampala-Former army commander Gen Gregory Mugisha Muntuyera, commonly known as Mugisha Muntu will on Tuesday unveil the leadership of his newly registered Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party.
Since the start of the process of forming and registering a party under the auspices of the New Formation, a platform unveiled by Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu when he quit the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in September, there has been no official structure.
Now, one day to the grand launch of the ANT on Wednesday May 22, a mini delegates’ conference comprising of two promoters from each of the districts in the country will be held to approve the interim leadership.
Former Serere Woman Member of Parliament, Ms Alice Alaso who is up to now known as the convener for all meetings of the ANT, confirmed to us on Saturday that an interim leadership will be in place on Tuesday.
“I can confirm that part of the interim leadership will be unveiled. Some of us have been working as you see am the convener but on that day others will come on board,” said Ms Alaso.
She was, however, not able to give details on how many officials will make the interim leadership because she was “busy” at the Serena International Conference Centre, the venue of the party launch. The mini delegates’ conference will be held at the Sharing Hall in Nsambya.
Two weeks ago, Gen Muntu told journalists at the party offices in Bukoto, a Kampala suburb that ANT will have a unique structure.

“Our constitution does not provide for a president,” he said.
A source close to the pre-launch preparations told us that the members of the interim leadership have been nominated by a high-level meeting of national promoters led by Gen Muntu.
The source said Gen Muntu whose role on the interim leadership is not yet known would be the one announcing the nominees before they are confirmed by the conference.
After the launch, the source said, the interim leadership will embark on the countrywide mobilisation and recruitment drive to form grass root structures that will feed in a national delegates’ conference slated for some time next year, to formally elect the ANT national office bearers.
Ms Alaso said on Saturday that at least 1,500 people have been invited for the official launch of the ANT on Wednesday. Also included are leaders of all political parties registered by the Electoral Commission, including the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party; diplomats; promoters; academia; civil society; religious leaders; the media among others.
