Kaweesi murder suspect collapses in court

One of the seven suspects arrested over the murder of former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Kaweesi has collapsed in the International Crimes Division Court.
The suspect collapsed after reportedly being kept in the holding cells for several hours without food.
Court officials later established that Yusuf Nyanzi suffers from stomach ulcers.
The eight suspects who are represented by Mr Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi and Mr Anthony Wameri were appearing for their bail application before Justice Lydia Mugambe.
Justice Mugambe had asked the lawyers to go to her chambers, something that annoyed the suspects and relatives who thought that the case could again be adjourned.
At this point, the suspects started shouting and asked court to “just hang them because they are fed up of being humiliated and subjecting them to embarrassment ever since they were arrested charged and committed to the International Crimes Division Court for trial by the Nakawa Chief Magistrate Court in May 2017.”
The chaos forced Justice Mugambe to transfer the hearings to the main court chambers where she discovered that Nyanzi collapsed due to severe ulcers.
She ordered prison wardens not to bring “hungry prisoners who faint and cannot stand in the dock; adding that imprisonment does not mean starving prisoners.
Justice Mugambe adjourned the suspects’ bail hearing to Friday after prosecution led by Ms Marion Ben-Bella, indicated that she needed two days to secure vital documents for the application.
