Lugogo murder: Kanyamunyu, girlfriend remanded

Businessman Matthew Kanyamunyu has this afternoon been arraigned before Nakawa Magistrate’s Court and remanded to Luzira prison over murder of child right’s activist Kenneth Akena.

Mr Kanyamunyu,39, the managing director of Quantum Logistics was jointly arraigned in court with his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari, 26, the founder of Ubumwe Foundation. His brother Joseph Kanyamunyu, 40, a public relations practitioner, is also jointly charged with him.

The three appeared before court nearly two weeks after the highly publicised murder incident at Lugogo in Nakawa Division. The trio appeared before Grade One Magistrate Noah Sajjabi but were not allowed to plead to the charges that are capital in nature which are only triable by the High Court.

m to Luzira prison until December 6 for mention of the case. Prosecution led by Ann Ntimba told court that investigations into the matter were incomplete.

Mr Kanyamunyu, his girlfriend Munwangari, a Burundian national were arrested on November 13 by Police and detained briefly at Wandegeya Police before they were transferred to Jinja Road Police.

Subsequently, the Police arrested Kanyamunyu’s brothers, Joseph Kanyamunyu and Moses Kanyamunyu on Thursday night on suspicion that they could have received the killer gun either at Nakasero Hospital or Norvik Hospital on the fateful day.
