Makerere search for missing student last spotted two weeks ago

KAMPALA: Makerere University administrators and students are still in panic after a third year Bachelor of Laws student disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Mr Muhammad Kiguddu, the university communications manager said that Joshua Mukisa disappeared from the university on May 17 amid exams and has never been seen since.

He said that the university top managers instructed the university police to investigate Mukisa’s disappearance and are yet to report back.
“The student disappeared from the university and no one knows his whereabouts to date. Investigations are still underway,” Mr Kiguddu said.

Mr Mukisa participated in the last guild elections as a candidate for People Power pressure group but lost to Mr Julius Kateregga who was also in the same movement.
Mr James Chombo, the in-charge Lumumba Hall where Mr Mukisa was residing said he had been receiving threats from unknown people after the guild elections.
He said that Mukisa did not sit for exams which end on June 1 asserting that students are planning to demonstrate if he does not seen by June 3.
“We have heard nothing about our missing colleague. We have been putting police on pressure to give us clues but all in vain,” Mr Chombo said.
Mukisa’s father George Musaale said he reported the case to Wandegeya Police Station and Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) but he’s yet to get feedback.
The deputy spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan police, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire said Wednesday that investigations are underway and that they had made some arrests.

“The boy is still missing and we do not have any clue about his whereabouts. We have arrested some people who are yet to lead us to his disappearance,” Mr Onyango said.
He however said they are not sure the student is still alive because some people have disappeared and been found dead after some days.
“We cannot conclude on whether the boy was kidnapped or he just went missing,” he added.
