Man arrested for stealing officer’s phone at police station

Police in Iganga District are holding a 22-year-old man for allegedly stealing a mobile phone belonging to a police officer who was on duty at Iganga Central Police Station.

The suspect, a resident of Jinja Town, is said to have sauntered into the Police Station on Thursday while disguising himself as a complainant who had come to register a case of theft and instead pocketed the officer’s Tecno smartphone.

The District Police Commander, Mr David Ndaula, said the officer became suspicious when he could not see his mobile phone that had been placed on the desk and subjected the suspect to a search during which the phone was found in his pockets.

“The suspect later led us to his residence in Jinja where we recovered laptops and many mobile phones, all suspected to have been stolen,” Mr Ndaula said.

He added that the suspect is being held at Iganga Central Police Station to help in investigations.
