A twenty five-year-old man has committed suicide by hanging himself after testing HIV positive.

Mr Bonny Okello, a resident of Ayara in Okwerodot Sub-county, was found dead on Thursday morning with the HIV result chit in his pocket.

According to Mr Morris Okello, the deceased on Wednesday went to Alito health centre III to test for HIV and the result turned up positive prompting him to hang himself.
“We found his body hanging on a tree in a swamp and in his pocket was an HIV test result which indicated that he was HIV positive. We suspect this is what prompted him to commit suicide,” Mr Okello, a resident of the area, told Daily monitor on Thursday.

He explained that the body of the deceased was taken to their home in Ayara waiting for postmortem to be done, but the report indicates that the deceased had engaged himself in drinking alcohol and smoking before he died.
“We are waiting for the doctor to conduct the postmortem then we shall go ahead with the burial arrangement,” Mr Okello the deceased’s uncle said.

The North Kyoga regional police spokesman ASP David Ongom Mudong has said a case of suicide has been reported at Ayara police post, but they were still waiting for the postmortem report before he could make an official comment.
