President Yoweri Museveni has challenged Christians to focus not only working for food, but also ensure they have sources of money if they are to live better lives.

Speaking to congregation at Sacred Heart Ntungamo Catholic Parish on Wednesday, Mr Museveni said some homes in the area have no visible income generating projects.

“As I was coming here, I saw homes that are still asleep (with no income generating projects). Sleeping (laziness) is against the Bible teachings,” Mr Museveni said.

He said God created man in His image and gave him two tasks; one of which is to produce and fill the universe and the other, to establish dominion over nature. He added that while people are doing well with the task of procreation, they are failing God on using nature for their well-being.

“You are still affected by famine; you find people hit by drought yet there are water sources in their neighborhoods. Why don’t you fetch that water, even if it means using containers, and irrigate your crops? But you find people are lamenting about famine,” Mr Museveni said.

He added: “You find some people with food but have no money. I didn’t clearly see where people get money as I was coming here.”

Maj Gen Fred Tumwebaze, who is the Commander Operation Wealth Creation Ntungamo, told the congregation that only 30 out of every 100 people in the district have income generating projects.
Mr Museveni challenged MPs and local politicians to move to communities and sensitise people about income generation.

He advised Christians against poor hygiene, alcoholism and prostitution. The Parish Priest Fr John Baptist Tumusiime said all 20 catholic centres have land and the religious leaders have already started establishing income generating projects like tea, banana plantation, coffee and woodlots.

The projects will generate income for the church and will be used as demonstration for communities.
