Kampala- The Sultan of Sokoko Caliphate in Nigeria, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar is in Uganda to attend Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s 26th coronation anniversary.

Sultan Abubaker is the 20th Sultan of Sokoto and the titular ruler of Sokoto in northern Nigeria.

He is the head of Jama'atu Nasril Islam (Society for the Support of Islam) and president-general of the Nigerian National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga said on Monday that this is the second time Sultan Abubakar is visiting Kabaka Mutebi and the two are great friends.

He said that Sultan Abubaker and the Kabaka will attend a luncheon after the former’s tour of the headquarters of the Ffumbe clan at Bakka in Wakiso District.

On Wednesday, according to the programme, Sultan Abuabaker will hold a meeting with the Kabaka at Katabi Upcountry Camping Palace before proceeding to Nkumba University, the venue of main coronation anniversary celebrations.

On the next day, he will visit Prince Kasim Nakibinge Kakungulu at Kibuli and later attend Juma prayers at Kibuli Mosque.

Mr Mayiga described the sultan as having very keen interest in the kingdom of Buganda because the two entities have a lot in common including colonial history.

“Interestingly, he knows a lot of history about our kingdom and he is familiar with the forefathers of the Kabaka. Our relationship will be very significant,” Mr Mayiga said.
