Ntagali decries crime-packed 2018, hopeful

Church of Uganda Archbishop Stanley Ntagali has decried the high incidence of defilement, murder, insecurity and kidnap cases and accidents which claimed many innocent lives.
While delivering the New Year sermon at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala yesterday, Archbishop Ntagali cautioned Ugandans to be patient as they pursue their New Year resolutions to avoid mistakes.
“Dear friends, it has to be said 2018 has been a tough and challenging year. It has been indeed an eventful one but we have to say on the other had it had a breakthrough, blessings and achievements,” he said.
The Archbishop said despite the challenges, the Church made some remarkable achievements, including completion of the Church House and Uganda Christian University starting enrolment of students for Bachelors in Medicine.
Archbishop Ntagali asked government to take action against land grabbers in the country.
The cleric noted that the problem had reached epidemic proportions to the extent that thieves were now stealing land for the Church and orphans, thus turning them into refugees in their own country.
He commended the ongoing Justice Catherine Bamugemereire commission of inquiry into land matters but asked the probe to take immediate measures to stop the vice.
On his part, Namirembe Diocese Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira said people have entered 2019 with a lot of excitement but should behave responsibly in order to realise their dreams.
At the service, Vicar Dean Canon Benon Kityo announced the new vicar Rev William Kyeyune who replaces Rev Kalungi who was transferred to St. John in Entebbe.
