Police arrest five suspects over murder of three sisters

Police in Kiboga District are holding five suspects linked to the kidnap and murder of three sisters last Thursday.

The suspects aged between 20 and 40 years are currently in police custody as investigations into the matter continue. They reportedly kidnapped and later killed; Asiimwe Natukunda, 10; Nusula Nayebare, 7 and Sulaiti Mutesi, 4 after their parents failed to pay a Shs1 million ransom.

The victims had been left at home as other family members went to the garden.

“When we came back [from the garden], the children were missing. We only found a written note in the sitting room requesting for a ransom of Shs500,000 and a telephone number where to deposit the money, if we wanted the children back,” Mr Hassan Barigye, the father of the deceased girls, said on Sunday.

According to Police Spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga, police officers first arrested three suspects on Tuesday morning before arresting two more in the afternoon, bringing the number to five. He said the suspects were arrested as they were trying to flee Kiboga District.

“Police have already arrested four suspects and we are still hunting for more. We request the general public to assists us and avail any information on the above assailants,” he said in a telephone interview without divulging details, saying it would jeopardize their investigations.

According to Kiboga Resident District commissioner, Mr Umar Muwiya Lule, one of the prime suspects lied to police that the machete they used to kill the victims was thrown in one of the pit latrines in Lwamata town which prompted police to search there, but found nothing.
