Police in Budaka District are hunting a traffic police officer at Mbirizi Police Station in Lwengo District for allegedly hacking his girlfriend to near-death under unclear circumstances.
The suspect, who hails from Kositi-Kadimukoli, in Budaka District, is accused of using a machete to hack Ms Justine Muganga,32, a businesswoman dealing in mobile phones.

Police information indicates that the traffic officer lured Ms Muganga, with whom they have been cohabiting in Nyendo Town Council, Masaka District, to the eastern part of the country where he attacked her from.

It is alleged that the suspect convinced Ms Muganga to travel with him to Busia-Kenya to procure phones at a cheaper price.
The incident, according to the police, occurred on November 5 at Sekulo on Kamonkoli-Pallisa Road at around 10pm.
The duo reportedly travelled in Ms Muganga’s car, from Masaka to Mbale.

How it happened
Mr Moses Vabekuno, the deputy criminal investigations officer for Budaka District, told Saturday Monitor that the officer lured the victim out of the car under the guise of chasing wild dogs, upon which he pounced on her, hacking her several times on the head.
“The suspect, after hacking the girlfriend to near-death, fled with the victim’s vehicle and personal belongings. The victim was helped by a good Samaritan who took her to Mbale Regional Hospital in critical condition,” Mr Vabekuno said.

Mr Vabekuno said the victim’s vehicle has since been recovered and that the manhunt for the suspect continues. A number of people were momentarily detained and interrogated by the police in Budaka over the matter but were later released.
