A 34-year-old police constable in Ntungamo District in western Uganda has committed suicide by shooting himself in the head over unknown reasons.

PC Ben Langoya is said to have turned the gun on himself in Ntungamo Police Barracks at around 6:50am on Thursday.
A senior police officer in the barracks, said Langoya's body, with a deep wound in the head, was found in a sitting position with a gun in his chest.
"Scene of crime officers found one bullet on the floor and a cartridge. Body was taken to Itojo Hospital mortuary for examination and on thorough observation we noticed that the deceased is likely to have placed the gun muzzle in the mouth and shot himself," the senior officer who asked not to be named because he’s not authorized to speak to the press, said Thursday morning.

The deceased was staying with his son, who was reportedly outside of the house when the incident happened.
Cases of police officers taking their own lives or those of their relatives are high.

Most causes of suicides in the police are family wrangles, love relationships, health issues and work challenges.
