A police officer who was reportedly arrested by operatives of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and detained at one of their safe houses has been found dead.

Police Constable Gideon Mbirire attached to Kabulengwa Police Post in Nansana, Wakiso District, was arrested by a team of ISO operatives on allegations of hiring out police guns to criminals.

However, on Thursday night after a day in custody, his body was reportedly dumped at Mulago City mortuary in Kampala by a man, who was driving a vehicle with government license plates. The man only identified himself as Kaggwa, according to mortuary attendants.

A source who preferred anonymity told this reporter that the deceased's body had signs of beatings and there is high suspicion that he was tortured to death.
