The Kapchorwa Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ms Emma Rose Cherukut, has warned students against paying allegiance to People Power, a political pressure group associated with Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, saying it has no vision and leadership skills to run the country.

“My dear students let this young man, who has come in, not confuse you. He has grown up from the ghetto and cannot make it to be a right leader of Uganda,” Ms Cherukut said during the patriotism pass out ceremony at Kapchorwa Boma grounds on Friday.
The ceremony attracted about 3,000 students from 21 schools, who were passed out by the deputy commissioner for patriotism in the Office of the President, Mr Mubaraka Magomu.

Ms Cherukut said the students should instead fully support President Museveni, a tested and visionary leader, who has presided over Uganda’s economic growth and development since 1986.
“At least they should be proud of President Museveni whose fruits we have in form of good roads, clean water and improved health care. Now his mission is to ensure that development is equally spread throughout the country,” she said.

The RDC also cautioned students against entrusting power in their respective schools to affiliates of the People Power movement, saying it sets a bad precedent.
Her remarks come following a trail of election of People Power-leaning guild presidents in several universities including Makerere, Nkumba and Kyambogo.

Mr Kyagulanyi, a month ago, declared his intention to challenge Mr Museveni in the 2021 presidential elections.
However, Ms Cherukut said Mr Kyagulanyi and other Opposition forces have nothing to offer.
Mr Alex Chesuro, the district patriotism coordinator, said patriotism has helped in bringing sanity in schools since it was introduced.
Mr Magomu urged both private and government schools to embrace the programme. “This is a national programme, which should be embraced by all schools to orient their students to love their country. It has a civil agenda not a political one,” he said.
