Rukungiri chief magistrate and two lawyers’ lives are under threat after receiving death threats from unknown people.

The District Police Commander as well as the Resident State Attorney are also among the people being targeted.

The anonymous letter was dropped in front of the State Attorney, Mr Richard Muhereza’s residence in the morning.

The letter contains death threats directed at the Chief Magistrate, Mr Moses Kule Lubangula, the District Police Commander, Mr Moses Nanoka, two prominent lawyers, Mr Mark Mwesigye of M/s Mark Mwesigye & Company Advocates and Mr Jonathan Bwagi of Bwagi & Company Advocates.

The suspected assassins have warned them in the letter, to back off the land cases they are handling.

The warning letter was packaged in a brown envelope which also contained two live bullets.

“We know where you stay. We know your office. We know all your family members. We warn you to leave [the] land cases because we are hired to kill you if you keep in the cases,” the letter reads in part. ''Your friends are also known, so you have to listen to our demands, these bullets are yours in soon time."

The authors of the letter, who are not yet known, say that they have already been paid to execute the mission.

Mr Mwesigye, one of the lawyers on the list, says they have already alerted police at Rukungiri police station.

“I have received the letter and as of now I have been assigned two police guards, that’s all I can say,” he said.

The ''warning letter''

The District Police Commander, Mr Moses Nanoka said they are investigating the case.

He, however, said those under threat have been given police escorts to protect them against possible attack.
On his part, Mr Muhereza (the state attorney) said, “We have zeroed on certain land case we think is the origin of this threat. We are not disclosing it now; police have already started the investigations.”

Daily Monitor could not get the Magistrate for a comment about the threats.

This comes a month after Isaac Sendegeya, a Kisoro based lawyer was gunned down at his home in Kisoro town.
