Student murdered, room set ablaze

A post graduate student of the Management, Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC) in Nakawa in Kampala was Thursday found dead and her room set ablaze in what appears to be a cover-up.

Police stumbled on Immaculate Kebirungi’s body as they rushed to put out the fire in her rented room along Neptune Avenue plot 21 Mbuya after being alerted by the neighbors.
A police source who was part of the team that put out the fire and entered the room told URN that they found Kebirungi's lifeless body lying on the bed with her hands and legs tied with ropes.

"She had even been covered with bedding's. Luckily the fire was not so much and did not burn everything in the room," the source said.
Detectives from Jinja Road Police Station went back to the scene and picked up two friends of the deceased whose identities have been withheld.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said the two are helping police to trace for the deceased's boyfriend who is suspected to have had a hand in her death.

"Two people are in our custody to help trace her boyfriend who is on the run. We understand he is trying to flee the country. I cannot disclose their names because it would jeopardize our investigations," he said,” he said.
Kebirungi's body was taken to Mulago Hospital for post-mortem.
