Two people died on spot and 42 were rushed to Iganga Hospital in critical condition after a bus, registration number UAQ 906T belonging to YY Coaches, overturned at Buseyi Village along the Iganga-Jinja Highway on Monday afternoon.

The bus which had 60 passengers on board was from Kampala heading to Mbale.
The Busoga East police Spokesman, Mr James Mubi, said the driver who was trying to overtake another vehicle found a trailer coming from the opposite direction; and while trying to avert a head-on collision, the vehicle swerved off the road and overturned.

Mr Mubi said that they were yet to establish the exact cause of the accident. The injured, however, attributed it to reckless driving.

One of the injured receives medical treatment at Iganga Hospital.

Mr Mubi identified the deceased as Wanda Asiyaka, a resident of Mbale and another woman whose identity was still unknown by press time.

The driver, whom he identified only as Taban, was arrested and is being detained at Iganga Police Station.

Speaking from Iganga Hospital, Yusuf Bilali, an accident survivor, said the bus driver was speeding.
"The driver was speeding yet it was raining and in the process of trying to overtake, he lost control,” he said.

Police took the bodies to Iganga Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
