Two dead, five others including two MPs hospitalised after three-car crash

Two people have been confirmed dead and five others critically injured following a three-car crash involving two Members of Parliament.
Police said the accident occurred on Sunday at about 8am near Best Park Factory located in Matugga on Bombo Road.
“It has been established that three vehicles were involved in this accident. Five people were injured and two died,” Kampala metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Mr Luke Owoyesigyire said in a statement.

The injured include Nakawa Member of Parliament Micheal Kabaziguruka, who was driving vehicle number UBB 355X Prado and Buliisa district Woman MP Norah Bigirwa who was being driven in UAZ 283k Land cruiser Prado, according to police.
Police said the occupant of the third vehicle UAV 895G died on the spot.

“A baby in the same vehicle was injured but also died on arrival to Mulago. Four of the five injured people are admitted to Mulago Hospital for medical attention whereas one was rushed to Platinum Clinic in Matugga,” Mr Owoyesigyire added.

Mr Chris Obore, the director of communications and public affairs in Parliament said: “Hon Michael Kabaziruga is able to talk. He is in Kampala Hospital. He feels chest pain. Set for an X-ray on chest and abdomen. The bleeding on the face was stopped by stitching. He got involved in accident after the car which was over taking another hit his car. After hitting Hon Kabaziguruka’s car, the overtaking driver swerved and also hit the car he was overtaking, which happened to be the car in which Hon Norah Bigirwa was traveling in. She was picked by Parliament ambulance and taken to Platinum hospital. We are yet to confirm her condition."

This is not the first time Mr Kabaziguruka is involved in a car accident.

In July the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) law maker sustained a double fracture on one of his legs when the ambulance van he was driving collided with another truck near the Uganda Manufacturers Association Showground in Lugogo, Kampala.
He was confined to a wheelchair for several months.
