Two sue Bunyoro king over Shs79m for fruit seedlings

Kampala. The Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Solomon Gafabusa Iguru has been sued for alleged failure to pay Shs79m for oranges, passion fruits and mango seedlings he received on behalf of his kingdom.
The king was sued by Ms Grace Nabbanja and Ms Sanyu Harriet in the High Court in Kampala on February 27.
Also sued is Isunga Agritech Foundation, one of the kingdom’s foundations.

The suit states that on October 8, 2009, Isunga Agritech Foundation on behalf of Bunyoro at Kawanda, entered into a verbal agreement with the petitioners to supply the kingdom with various seedlings.
They say they supplied 2,800 mango seedlings at Shs5,000 each, 11,820 orange seedlings at Shs5,000 each and 3,200 passion fruit seedlings at Shs2,000 each worth more than Shs79m.
“According to the agreement, the defendants were to pay the money for the seedlings within a period of two weeks from the date of the agreement,” the suit states.

“The defendants did not honour their contractual obligation by failing to clear payments within the agreed period,” the petitioners further state.
They contend the king wrote to them acknowledging receipt of the seedlings and promised to pay them in three instalments, but did not.
