Kampala- Prince David Kintu Wasajja has accused Uganda’s first Chief Justice, the late Benedict Kiwanuka, and founder of Uganda National Congress Joseph Kiwanuka of grabbing Ssekabaka Sir Edward Mutesa II’s land in Mutungo, a Kampala suburb.

Prince Wasajja is Mutesa II’s youngest son. He told the land probe chaired by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire yesterday that the late Kiwanuka as a shareholder in a Lake View Properties and Joseph Mary Balimu Musenze Kiwanuka, Charles Semanda Mukasa and Lawrence Sebalu as directors in the same company, in 1968 grabbed his father’s land. The late Kiwanuka and his colleagues in 1972 mortgaged the disputed to Barclays. But when they failed to pay the bank sold the land to Dr Muhammed Bawule Kasasa. However, in a second statement Dr Kasasa says he bought this land from Princess Nnalinya Mpologoma.

According to records, Wasajja presented a title deed of the land measuring 639 acres with another person called Kwemalamala Kintu. It’s not yet clear how Kwemalamala came to own the land in question. Mutesa’s name was missing on the title and there is no evidence that that he transferred the title.
Prince Wasajja insists that his late father’s land was grabbed by unscrupulous people who later forged transfer details.

He wants the commission to help the family to recover the land in question.
“We want to recover our land because we have not found evidence that my father sold this land, but we have found evidence that he owned Block 237 in Mutungo, Kyadondo was registered to Kabaka Mutesa II on February 12, 1946.
He wanted to turn the area into an upscale residential area but unscrupulous people took advantage of his absence to grab the land and they have denied us access” he said.

Prince Wasajja is an administrator of his father’s private estate together with Princess Nnalinya Kagere and Princess Nnalinya Nassolo.
