Boxer Kiwanuka ‘buys’ coffin for opponent

Kiwanuka displays the coffin in which he will 'bury' his opponent.

KAMPALA- He is Shafik Kiwanuka but he boasts as ‘The Killing Machine.’ And to match the moniker, he hired a coffin from Executive Funeral Services to scare the proverbial hell out of his Kenyan opponent ahead of their duel tomorrow [Friday] night.

Throughout Thursday’s weigh-in at the event venue MTN Arena Lugogo, Kiwanuka was vowing to ‘kill’ David Karama. And the coffin stunt was just in tandem.

“I want to kill him, put him in this coffin and return him to Kenya. The Killing Machine has no mercy,” Kiwanuka told the press.

This event, organised by Big Strikers International, is going to be the professional debut for both fighters.

Kiwanuka, a product of Kampala Boxing Club, won the 2017 national [amateur] heavyweight title but chose to go pro after being left out of the 2018 Commonwealth Games team. His opponent is a late substitute after Obadiah Mwangi pulled out due to medical issues. Nevertheless, he said “I’m ready for Shafik. I have been training, ready for a fight anytime.”
